Ο Μανθόπουλος άρχισε την μπασκετική του καριέρα από τον Μύτικα Λάρισας, ενώ την πεσρινή χρονιά αγωνιζόταν με την εφηβική ομάδα του ΠΑΟΚ.
Με τους Θεσσαλονικείς υπέγραψε συμβόλαιο διάρκειας τεσσάρων χρόνων.
